In 2021, the State of Michigan granted the State Alliance of Michigan YMCA's $3.75 million to expand hands-on civics and model-government programs that offer statewide engagement with peers from across the state. This grant has expanded the opportunity for schools from across the state to participate in the YMCA Michigan Youth in Government program and removed prior barriers to access.
Through this grant, YMCA Michigan Youth in Government is able to provide a $1,500 stipend to the lead advisor of a delegation, reimburse 90% of the transportation costs to attend any of our conferences and cover 90% of the registration cost for our conferences. Since the grant has been implemented, the participation in YMCA Michigan Youth in Government has grown 40% and continues to bring in new students and schools.
To apply for the grant, lead advisors must first have an account on our website. Once they have an account and are logged into the system, they can go under the "Register for an Event" page. If a school has received the grant previously, they can fill out the Grant Renewal Application. If the school is new to YMCA Michigan Youth in Government, the lead advisor can fill out the New Grant Application.
