Delegation Leaders

Delegation Leaders are 1-2 students from each delegation who assist their advisor in leading their delegation throughout the school year and the spring conference. They are selected by their advisor in April-May of each school year for the following program year. We recommend that delegations select one senior and one junior to serve, in order for the junior to take over as the main Delegation Leader the following year.

Delegation Leaders attend the Delegation Leadership Retreat in August, where they are trained in leadership skills, recruitment, fundraising, program area preparation and get to know other leaders from across the state. Throughout the program year, they attend monthly Delegation Leaders Zoom calls where they get important information from the staff to take back to their delegations, help with event planning and give feedback on events. These calls also serve as a way for leaders to troubleshoot and help each other in conference preparation. During the spring conference, they will attend Delegation Leader meetings each morning to help bring concerns to the staff, communicate information from the staff back to their delegations and give feedback.

The idea Delegation Leader:

  • Demonstrates the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Has a positive attitude and is able to work well with others
  • Has strong leadership skills including the ability to follow through with long term tasks and projects
  • Strives for good citizenship and servant leadership skills
