A PROCESS OF LEADERSHIP

"Being involved in Michigan Youth in Government has been a life altering experience for me. I did not come into this program with a passion for politics nor did I come into it with a drive to obtain any fervor for politics. I came into this program as a timid young lady who wanted to try something different and that is exactly what I got, diversity. Michigan Youth in Government has undoubtedly been the most sundry program that I have ever been involved in, from the banquet halls in the conference center in Lansing, MI to the General Assemblies in Black Mountain, NC, nothing is uniform."

"It is an extraordinary feeling to realize how much a single organization has impacted your life. I still remember the first conference I attended as the only freshman from my high school. It felt overwhelming at first, but then I realized that I wanted to be a part of this. I wanted to be the man in the chair. I wanted to be the man standing behind the podium. And I wanted to be the man creating legislation that has the power to change lives. This was the day that I realized what an incredible impact YIG had made on my life. I no longer had to wonder where life was going to take me. I am grateful for how far I’ve come, and I’m proud to represent MYIG which gives thousands of students each year the opportunity to live government.  I am truly honored to be your 2010 Michigan Youth Governor."

"Over the years, Youth in Government has proved to be an excellent learning opportunity for its participants. One of the best ways to learn a skill is through first-hand experience, and Youth in Government provides just that. To walk through the hallowed halls of our beautiful State Capitol and to sit in the house and Senate Chambers and debate legislation you have created will, I’m sure, prove to be a memorable experience."

Jennifer Granholm, Michigan Governor
