Why do you want to run for this position?

I would love to have a leadership positions in my school's MYIG club as I am very much interested in the processes and functioning of government and I believe that by being Governor I would be more engaged and involved with the club. I also consider myself to have good leadership qualities such as that of responsibility, outspokenness, and confidence, making me certain that I could do well in this position.

What other activities have you done that make you qualified to run for office?

I'm on student council which involves me organizing events for my school and being quite involved with my school's clubs, issues, special occasions, etc. I also interned for a district state representative over the summer which gave me a lot of insight into the way a political campaign works. Through this internship I've made calls to hundreds of voters in Troy and Clawson, organized events, and designed promotional graphics for the campaign.

Garrett Thorne

Coldwater High School

Why do you want to run for this position?

I want to run for this position because of my love for yig. Yig is the highlight of my life every year in the spring, and it pains me when it goes. I want to run because I feel as though I can lead Yig, and make the decisions to make yig even more enjoyable, and run smoother. My main goal is to find ways to have NIF, MJP and legislative to have a bit more down time. Every year the best part is the debating, but after being ushered to committees all day the value diminishes. I’ve seen it, and personally do not like the ‘slump’ that occurs every year where bills start flying in and out as people lose interest. That is why my main objective is to try and reduce the possibility of that happening. I offer strong leadership, and the want to make a few changes to make yig smoother, and also allow people to enjoy their time more.

What other activities have you done that make you qualified to run for office?

I have always played on many sports teams, allowing me to be a strong leader. I participate in National Honor society at high school to help better my community and school. I also help at many charity events through my schools Interact club in order to reach those in need. I have done Model Judiciary Program, practiced a NIF proposal, and wrote a bill in yig, allowing me to understand the wants and needs of the many delegates in various branches of yig.
